 The editor

My role as the editor is to create a finished product by putting together clips. My job is to cut and assemble the best shots around the song.

As the editor I also manage the sound effects, audio, graphics and special effects of the video. Before the shoot I work closely with the director to create a timeline of what is going to be filmed and where specific shots will go in the final product. Once the filming begins I look at the rushes to ensure all the technical aspects are good.

On set I have the storyboard with me so that I'm able to follow the video according to the storyboard and this helps on the day of editing the video.

My role is important as it’s my job to put everything we’ve been working for together and also to ensure that the audience understands the concept of the whole music video. My role is important as I have to create a seamless finished product where the audience feels like they want to see more of the band and they are able to see the image of them all having a strong friendship.

While editing the music video I will start off by editing a performance cut, then add the non lip sync parts, then editing the clips that need to have the vcr effect and then finally doing the colour grading.

Within my role I will be targeting  the audience and their expectation by doing quick cuts that will mirror the genre and creating an image of the band that shows how friendly and approachable they are.

I  think it’s also important to remember to use the time codes to sync up all the footage and to rename all the clips on the timeline and not the rushes.
